Canada-Wide Standards for Dioxins and Furans

Identifier
Canada-Wide Standards for Dioxins and Furans
Title
Canada-Wide Standards for Dioxins and Furans
Type of Document
Report
Edition Date
2001 May 01
Summary

The Canada-wide Standards process has focussed on anthropogenic sources that are releasing dioxins and furans to the atmosphere and soil in a continuous process.
In January 1999, the Federal/Provincial Task Force on Dioxins and Furans released the Dioxins and Furans and Hexachlorobenzene Inventory of Releases which documented the current understanding of anthropogenic sources in Canada releasing dioxins and furans. The Inventory of Releases lists emissions from over 20 sectors by province and territory, and provides national summaries for each sector.

Canada-Wide Standards for Mercury Emissions
Title
Canada-Wide Standards for Mercury Emissions
Type of Document
Report
Edition Date
2000 Jun 05
Summary

CCME recognizes the importance of continuous improvement in mercury emission reductions because of the toxic, persistent and bioaccumulative nature of this pollutant in order to protect not only fish and wildlife, but also human health. CCME is committed to reducing mercury releases to the environment. CCME developed Canada-wide Standards (CWSs) for mercury emissions from base-metal smelters, waste incinerators, coal-fired power plants as well as mercury-containing lamps and dental amalgam waste.

National Guidelines for Hazardous Waste Incineration Facilities - Design and Operating Criteria
Type of Document
Guidance Document
Edition Date
1992 Mar 01
Summary

Properly designed and operated incineration systems are capable of destroying the hazardous organic components of a waste stream. On the Other hand, the improper design and operation of these systems could pose a threat to public health through emissions of hazardous and other contaminants including acid gases, metals and organics.
The inherent advantages of the thermal destruction of waste, balanced against the potential problems resulting from such practice, have led to the need to develop sound design and operating criteria for hazardous waste incineration facilities.

Summary

The provisions of the IWUCl apply to the construction, alteration, movement, repair, maintenance and use of any building, structure or premises within the wildland urban-interface areas in this jurisdiction. Buildings or conditions in existence at the time of the adoption of this code are allowed to have their use or occupancy continued, if such condition, use or occupancy was legal at the time of the adoption of this code, provided such continued use does not constitute a distinct danger to life or property.

Valve-Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) Battery String Certification Levels Based on Requirements for Safety and Performance
Type of Document
Requirements
Edition Date

Summary

The document provides a 3-level system of VRLA String Safety and Performance Criteria based on Telcordia generic requirements documents. The VRLA string criteria levels are defined as follows: ? Level 1, Safety and Minimal Operability – minimum acceptable level of compliance needed to preclude hazards and degradation of the network facility and hazards to personnel, and needed to ensure battery operability at the installation time in controlled environments.

Characterization of Storage Batteries for Photovoltaic Systems
Type of Document
Standard
Edition Date
2014 Jan 01
Summary

This Standard provides a method of presenting technical information relating to the selection of storage batteries for photovoltaic systems and to the precision of that information.
Note: A distinguishing feature of photovoltaic (PV) power systems is the unpredictability and limitation on the amount of charging power available and hence on the charge-d ischarge cycles imposed on the storage battery.
1.2
This Standard includes procedures designed to verify the capacity, efficiency, and longevity of storage batteries.
