1.1 These requirements cover small wind turbine systems (WT) and electrical subassemblies. With respect to this standard, small WT are considered to be wind turbines where a user or service person cannot or is not intended to enter the turbine to operate it or perform maintenance. These units are intended for use in stand-alone (not grid-connected) or utility interactive applications. Utility-interactive, grid-tied WT are operated in parallel with an electric power system (EPS) to supply power to common loads.

The technical specifications for, and testing of, the interconnection between utility electric power systems (EPS) and distributed energy resources (DER) are the focus of this standard. It provides requirements relevant to the performance, operation, testing, safety considerations, and maintenance of the interconnection. It also includes general requirements, response to abnormal conditions, power quality, islanding, and test specifications and requirements for design, production, installation evaluation, commissioning, and periodic tests.

This guide describes construction, protection, occupancy features, and practices intended to reduce security vulnerabilities to life and property. Provisions cover security planning, administrative controls, security perimeters, crime prevention through environmental design, security systems, and accessory property. In addition, individual chapters present specific requirements for educational facilities; health care; lodging, multi-dwelling unit buildings, restaurants, shopping centers, retail establishments, office buildings, and industrial facilities.

This standard provides requirements for the application, location, installation, performance, testing, and maintenance of electronic premises security systems and their components. Provisions define the means of signal initiation, transmission, notification, and annunciation; the levels of performance; and reliability.

This standard covers the safety and performance of distributed energy resource systems. These systems may be comprised of distributed energy sources such as photovoltaic arrays or wind turbines in homogenous or hybrid configurations, energy storage systems, grid interface equipment and related equipment to accomplish functionality of the distributed energy system.

EV batteries still have storage capacity, typically at 80 percent, after they’re removed from their vehicles and can be reclaimed for a “second life” as stationary power sources. This should reduce the need for additional power production and shrinking landfill waste.

This standard covers performance requirements for emergency and standby power systems providing an alternate source of electrical power in buildings and facilities in the event that the normal electrical power source fails. Systems include power sources, transfer equipment, controls, supervisory equipment, and accessory equipment needed to supply electrical power to the selected circuits.

Internationally, code officials recognize the need for a modern, up-to-date residential code addressing the design and construction of one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses not more than three stories above grade.
