Description of the issue
Design & Planning:
- Modular container design meant restricted space in switchgear container, investigate a purpose built prefab 16’ building
- All engine controls need to be a common 24 volts
- Putting equipment on the roof is not a good idea. The operator needs to inspect service motors and connections on a daily basis
- Remote access is must-have. Need to be able to troubleshoot and update software remotely
Recommandations
Implementation:
- The communication with the community was very good – frequent updates a necessity
- GPS on transport trucks to detect speeds etc. Language in contracts about excessive speeds and damage to equipment on winter roads
- Regular scheduled meeting should be held with all stakeholders rather than immediate parties
- Site security-community using worksite as thoroughfare
- Equipment maintenance logs and certificates of competency required as part of H&S documentation but in a small remote community it may not be available
- Shipping and logistics were very difficult at times – it is an issue in most small communities
