Title
Safety Standard for Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Propulsion Battery Systems Utilizing Lithium-based Rechargeable Cells
Type of Document
Standard
Edition Date
2013 Feb 11
Summary

This SAE Standard defines a minimum set of acceptable safety criteria for a lithium-based rechargeable battery system to be considered for use in a vehicle propulsion application as an energy storage system connected to a high voltage power train. While the objective is a safe battery system when installed into a vehicle application, this Standard is primarily focused, wherever possible, on conditions which can be evaluated utilizing the battery system alone.

Electrically propelled road vehicles -- Safety specifications -- Part 1: On-board rechargeable energy storage system (RESS)
Type of Document
Standard
Edition Date
2009 Sep 01
Summary

ISO 6469-1:2009 specifies requirements for the on-board rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS) of electrically propelled road vehicles, including battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), fuel-cell vehicles (FCVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), for the protection of persons inside and outside the vehicle and the vehicle environment. Flywheels are not included in the scope of ISO 6469-1:2009.
ISO 6469-1:2009 does not apply to RESS in motorcycles and vehicles not primarily intended as road vehicles, such as material handling trucks or fork-lift trucks.

Protocol for Uniformly Measuring and Expressing the Performance of Energy Storage Systems
Type of Document
Report
Edition Date
2013 Aug 01
Summary

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Storage Systems (ESS) Program, through the support of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), facilitated the development of the protocol provided in this report. The focus of the protocol is to provide a uniform way of measuring, quantifying, and reporting the performance of ESSs in various applications; something that does not exist today and, as such, is hampering the consideration and use of this technology in the market.
