The IFC contains regulations to safeguard life and property from fires and explosion hazards. Topics include general precautions, emergency planning and preparedness, fire department access and water supplies, automatic sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, special hazards, and the storage and use of hazardous materials.
The Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC) has adopted, by way of Consolidated Newfoundland and Labrador Regulation 9/96, the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), National Fire Code of Canada (NFCC), and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101, Life Safety Code (LSC).
All buildings in New Brunswick must be built or renovated according to the standards of the National Building Code and the National Fire Code. See National Fire Code of Canada.
